Week One

After compiling research over the summer holidays I started the year feeling that I was in a good place to start my dissertation. I worked with my DSA study skills worker, Louise Noakes, to organise my research into different sections which would allow me to streamline the relevant information for each section of my dissertation. My dissertation was looking at the way that photography has aided conservation in the UK. I haven't figured out the best way to word it yet, but I hope that with the dissertation sessions I will be able to. I have been using resources such as the RSPB magazine which comes out quarterly and is factual as it outlines the different conservation projects that they are doing as well as interesting facts about nature in general.

I have also looked into the history of conservation in the UK as limited as it may be having only really started in terms of widespread awareness in the 1980's. I plan to use this as background knowledge for my dissertation. I will also look at organisations who are protecting the environment and are established and reasonably well known such as the National Trust. I will be looking into the projects that these organisations have done and are currently doing and the effectiveness of the projects. I will also be looking at Ted videos to see what the current thoughts are surrounding conservation.

I have also been looking at Outdoor Magazine which is a magazine dedicated to landscape and wildlife photography and covers a wide range of issues. I will use this to look at photographers who have been making work for conservation issues. I will also look out for any conservation projects mentioned in the magazine which will inform my dissertation. I will make copies of any relevant articles from both magazines to look into further for my dissertation.
